Fifth Committee of the General Assembly meets to discuss the Secretary-General’s annual report on UNFIP

This morning the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly met to discuss the Secretary-General’s annual report on UNFIP for the activities of 2005 (A/61/189) in New York. The Executive Director of the UN Fund for International Partnerships, reported to the Committee highlighting the partnership with the UN Foundation continues to prosper. “We increasingly leverage their leadership in advocacy and partnership building, and as a result, we are increasingly seen as a one stop service for partnership building by the UN system and, more importantly, by outside entities who approach us for advice on how to build successful partnerships with the UN as well as at the country level. We offer a facilitation and advisory service for companies, foundations and civil society, including NGOs and academic institutions. This service that has grown exponentially, and within a few years, UNFIP has evolved to become the UN Office for Partnerships” Mr. Dossal added.

The Group of 77 and China expressed appreciation for the work of UNFIP, recognizing the personal contribution of Mr. Ted Turner to the United Nations and commending UNFIP for its work and achievements to date.
