Deputy Secretary-General signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth Business Council

The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General and the Director General of the Commonwealth Business Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizing a partnership between the two organisation today.

The MoU establishes a Global Business Council as cooperation between the United Nations Office for Partnerships and the Commonwealth Business Council, an organization which serves to foster cooperation between business and governments. The objectives are to formulize the cooperation of the parties with activities designed inter alia to: set up a Global Business Council, organize global business forums, build regional and global partnerships, strengthen the business climate in developing countries and enhance support enterprise development to help achieve the MDGs.

The Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro commented, "The partnership that we have established with the Commonwealth Business Council is an important milestone towards achieving the MDGs. Investments in developing countries are crucial towards addressing the MDGs."
