Letter dated 9 March 2004 from the Permanent Representative of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya to the United Nations addressed to the President of the General Assembly

  In my capacity as Chairman of the Arab Group for the month of March 2004, I have the honour to transmit herewith an updated copy of the list of Arab States that have filed their instruments of ratification of the Arab Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, which was previously deposited with the Secretariat of the United Nations and has been circulated as a document of the General Assembly. 

  I should be grateful if you would deposit the annex hereto with the United Nations Secretariat and have the present letter and its annex circulated as a document of the General Assembly under agenda item 156 — Measures to eliminate international terrorism.

Annex to the letter dated 9 March 2004 from the Permanent Representative of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya to the United Nations addressed to the President of the General Assembly

Status of the signature and ratification of the Arab Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism

A.   The Convention was adopted within the framework of the League of Arab States by a decision of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice and the Interior at their joint meeting held on 22 April 1998 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League in Cairo.

B.   The Convention has been signed by the Arab Ministers of Justice and the Interior of all the Arab Member States.

E.   The Convention has been deposited with the Secretariat of the United Nations and listed in General Assembly documents A/54/301 of 3 September 1999, A/55/179 of 26 July 2000 and A/56/160 of 9 March 2001 in the section on the status of international legal instruments on the prevention and suppression of international terrorism.
