"The Nobel Peace Prize: 1901-2001, a Centennial Exhibition"

"This exhibition shows how humankind's understanding of peace has grown over this past century -- a century of savage loss and bloodshed, but also one of extraordinary progress and vision."

From Secretary-General Kofi Annan remarks at the opening of the Nobel Peace Prize 1901-2001 Centennial Exhibition, New York, 4 March 2002

The exhibit, which has been put together by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Norwegian Museum of Cultural History and the United Nations Department of Public Information, celebrates the work of a diverse group of Nobel Laureates, including the current Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, the United Nations and Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The exhibit contains four sections: a presentation of selected Nobel Laureates from 1901 to 2001; "Portraits of Peace" -- photographic portraits of Nobel Laureates by French photographer Micheline Pelletier; Artist portfolio "Art for Freedom", 17 of Norway's most renowned contemporary artists (this collection is presented every year by "Worldview Rights" to the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates); and the Nobel Peace Prize 2001.

The exhibit will be open to the public until May 2nd 2002, seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Visitors' Lobby of United Nations Headquarters. Admission is free.
