Our mandate
United Nations Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP)

Following the adoption of resolution 58/5 calling for 2005 to be the International Year for Sport and Physical Education, the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP) was tasked by the Secretary-General to serve as focal point for communication with and support to the Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace. UNFIP's role encompasses guidance on sport related project partnerships and support to the International Year of Sport and Physical Education 2005.

Together with Mr. Ogi's office, UNFIP facilitates the development of strategic partnerships by engaging the world of sport with the United Nations and fostering collaborations involving the international sport community and sports-related organizations. It actively encourages the use of sport as a programme tool to reach the Millennium Development Goals; and spreads information about the value of sport and play as a tool for development, health and peace.
