On July 9 and 10, the Alibaba Foundation, established by SDG Advocate and Alibaba Group Chairman Jack Ma, hosted the Xin Philanthropy Conference in Hangzhou. The conference brought together philanthropy pioneers in China with experts from around the world to foster an exchange of ideas and best practices to inspire a new generation of Chinese to make a positive social impact on the world.

In his opening address, Mr. Ma stressed that “It’s not enough to have good will; we also need the talent, the planning and the execution to make a sustainable impact in China and in the world.”

Also in attendance was Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who in his keynote speech called not only the government but also the private sector and civil society to take part in achieving the United Nation’s sustainable development goal by 2030.

“We are the first generation that can end global poverty and at the same time we are the last generation that can reverse climate change. If we don’t take action now, we will leave only regret to succeeding generations,” he said.
