INTERNATIONAL COMPUTER DRIVING LICENSE (ICDL)

Start, Full and Advanced Certification Programmes

The International Computer Driving License (ICDL), known as the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) in Europe, is a global standard in end-user computer skills certification. The ICDL programme is for anyone who needs to demonstrate to an international standard that they are fully competent in the use of a personal computer and common computer applications and that they know the essential concepts of Information Technology. The benefits of successfully completing the ICDL certification include:

Start Certification

5 x ½-days (Monday to Friday)

Target audience

Staff who wish to demonstrate, through an international certification standard, that they are fully competent in the use of a personal computer and common computer applications in word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel) and information and communications applications (Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Lotus Notes).

Prerequisites

Microsoft Windows XP (Level 1), Microsoft Office Word (Levels 1 and 2), Microsoft Office Excel (Levels 1 and 2) and Using Lotus Notes

ICDL modules covered

M2 - Using a Computer and Managing Files (Microsoft Windows)

M3 - Word Processing (Microsoft Office Word)

M4 - Spreadsheets (Microsoft Office Excel)

M7 - Information and Communication (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Lotus Notes)

Overview

Participants receive instructorled training (crash course) in each module and then complete online diagnostic assessments. Each diagnostic test measures the individualís competency in each moduleís key areas. . Participants complete certification tests before the end of the five half days. Each test is administered online via the Internet. There are 36 questions per module and a time limit of 30 minutes for M2/M7 and 45 minutes for M3/M4 to complete the test after which the results are displayed. A total of at least 75% is required to pass each test. Once candidates pass all four module tests, they receive the ICDL Start Certification.

Full Certification (available from May 2010)

5 x ½-days (Monday to Friday)

Target audience

Staff who wish to demonstrate, through an international certification standard, that they are fully competent in the use of a personal computer and common computer applications in database (Microsoft Access), presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint) and that they know the essential concepts of Information Technology.

Prerequisites

ICDL Start Certification and completion of the following instructor-led courses: Microsoft Office Access (Levels 1), Microsoft Office PowerPoint (Levels 1 and 2) and online self-study on the concepts of IT

ICDL modules covered

M1 - Concepts of IT

M5 - Database (Microsoft Office Access)

M6 - Presentation (Microsoft Office PowerPoint)

Each diagnostic test measures the individualís competency in each moduleís key areas. Participants complete all three certification tests. Each test is administered online via the Internet. Advanced Certification

4 1/2 days Revisions and Half-day Certification Exam - 5 x 1/2 days (Monday to Friday)

Target audience

Staff who wish to demonstrate, through an international certification standard, that they are an expert in the use of each application, acquiring skill sets over and above the routine features of the software. Advanced certification is available in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word.

Prerequisites

ICDL Start, Full Certification and Advanced instructor-led and online self-study in the advanced features of Word Processing (Microsoft Word) and Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel).

AM3 - Advanced Word Processing

AM4 - Advanced Spreadsheet
