Information technology learning programmes support the Secretary-Generalís information and communications technology (ICT) strategy by providing staff with the skills and competencies to manage information and knowledge more effectively and efficiently.

Programmes are offered in the following areas: An orientation to UN information technology (IT) resources introduces staff to the IT environment in New York, including a brief summary of IT learning programmes. Graphic design and website development programmes train staff to author with the hypertext markup language (HTML) and design graphics and websites with the Adobe design suite. Courses in the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) introduce participants to some of the features for processing human and financial resources data in IMIS. Lotus Notes Courses introduce participants to e-mail, scheduling and calendaring features of the software. Microsoft courses are offered at various levels in Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Windows and Word. After completion of the relevant Microsoft Office prerequisite courses, staff may complete the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) certification programme. Start, Full and Advanced Certification programmes are available. Specialised technical training is arranged for Departmental technical focal points, such as Windows XP support and troubleshooting. In addition, customised workshops for various desktop applications are available. During the workshop, staff spend an hour with course instructors discussing their specific questions and possible solutions.
