CAREER SUPPORT

A wide range of career development and support programmes are available to help both managers and staff plan and manage their careers. Full day workshops on career and life planning are offered, along with specific skill-building workshops in Preparing Written Applications and Effective Interviewing. A range of shorter workshops address topics such as networking, managing your professional reputation, and a variety of other topics. Additionally, oneon- one meetings with senior career consultants and Staff Development staff are offered for mock interviews and general career counseling.

Global Career Resource Centres are set up in all duty stations of the UN Secretariat, with orientation to individual and small group support in the area of career and professional development. The Career Centres offer a lunchtime series of workshops for both managers and staff to promote effective participation and planning for future career development opportunities. Focused career support for junior professionals is available through the Orientation and Development Programme (in New York and Geneva) and the Mentoring Programme. Other activities include the Pre-Retirement Programme, which is open to both staff and their spouses, and the Spouse Support Programme for spouses/partners of UN staff members
