Objectives

This workshop will:

  • Work with members to create an inspiring team vision.
  • Assist members in developing unit and individual work-plans.

Topics covered

Creating a shared vision; Communicating the new vision throughout the work unit; Linking departmental and work unit goals to overall organizational strategies; Writing measurable, action-oriented goals that support achievement of work plans; Developing performance standards against which to measure achievement of goals; Developing a strategy to encourage team members to make a commitment to work on unit goals, strategies, and performance standards.

Creating an Effective Team

This workshop will:

  • Assess team issues and provide feedback to team members.
  • Work with the team to develop a plan to address team issues and enhance efficiency

Topics covered

The criteria for a successful team; Developing team norms; Importance of using personal communication skills for effective team performance; Differences in individual communication styles and their impact on team communication; Improving communication within your group; Creating an action plan for improved team performance.

Creative Problem-solving and Decision-making

One or two days (This workshop will be customised to meet the specific needs of the teams)

Target audience

Team leaders and their team members.

Objective

This workshop will assist teams in exploring problems or challenges and developing options to address them.

Topics covered

Using effective techniques for each step of the problem-solving process, including clarifying the problem, generating options, selecting a solution and devising an implementation plan; Employing skills in reaching group consensus from conflicting perspectives; Applying creative problem-solving techniques to real team issues.

Team Building Workshop

Two or three days

Target audience

Team leaders and their team members

Objective

Through an interactive learning experience, team members identify ways to enhance their job performance and satisfaction.

Topics covered

The workshop focuses on each team member as an individual (What does each team member bring to the workplace, to the team and to the work environment; What can each team member do to make his/her experience better; In what ways can staff members benefit from effective team experiences). The workshop also focuses on the team (What are the implications of being in a team or a work group; What are the rules of engagement; How can the team keep lines of communication open; How can team members connect in ways that are honest, respectful and caring)

How to Build and Maintain a Great Team (New Programme)

1/2 day (with an optional afternoon coaching clinic)

Target audience

Leaders and managers who manage five staff or more

Objectives

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
  • Identify the characteristics of great teams and assess their own teams in this context.
  • Be able to take practical actions to strengthen their team.
  • Describe and evaluate their own teamís diversity with regard to: action/thinking/people roles.
  • Create an action plan to strengthen the team where it is lacking.

Topics covered

Key characteristics of great teams, how their team currently measures against this standard and what actions to take to help their team meet the standard, description of the three types of roles people play on teams: action/thinking/people roles, evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of their own team and creation of an action plan to improve deficiencies.

The optional afternoon clinic will offer mission and vision clarification and tips on how best to develop and communicate these to the team, and coaching on real team leadership and team dynamics issues. As a follow-up, there will be a possibility of taking additional individual coaching sessions
