COACHING

Coaching to Develop Performance

Two days
Schedule: 27 - 28 February 2013; 24-25 July 2013; 23-24 October 2013

Target audience

Staff at all levels who supervise or manage others. We recommend that staff complete the Management Development Programme (page 39) or the Supervisory Skills Development Series (page 48) before taking this workshop.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Gain an enhanced understanding of the role of coaching in management development
  • Support others in coming to their own conclusions about the best way to enhance their learning, performance and motivation
  • Apply the coaching process for personal development

Topics covered

Using an effective “road map” for conducting a coaching conversation; When coaching is appropriate and when it is not; The mindset needed for effective coaching; Active listening; Analysing possible causes of performance issues; Working with resistance; Practicing coaching with each other on real life issues.

Coaching One-on-One

One hour session
Schedule: 1 March 2013; 26 July 2013; 25 October 2013

Target audience

Staff who completed the Coaching to Develop Performance, Supervisory Skills Training, Management Development Programme and Leadership Development Programme.

Objectives

This will be an opportunity for participants to discuss their individual cases, what has worked in coaching, and what remains a challenge. At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to more effectively coach their staff to:

  • Be more motivated, engaged and work more effectively with others
  • Follow through on delegated projects and routine actions
  • Support their career development
  • Solve problems and make decisions
