The United Nations Administrative Tribunal Statute and Rules established the Tribunal to hear and pass judgement upon applications alleging non-observance of a staff member's contract or terms of appointment.
An application is receivable before the Administrative Tribunal (AT) once the person concerned has taken the case to a joint appeals body that has communicated its opinion to the Secretary-General, or in a case where the Secretary-General and the staff member concerned agree to submit applications directly to the Administrative Tribunal.
Article 7 of the Statute of the AT provides information on time limits for submissions to the AT.
In Chapter III, Article 7, and Annex I of the Rules of the AT (procedures) there are detailed instructions on the information necessary to submit an application. A sample outline of an Administrative Tribunal application is provided for guidance.
The Office of the Coordinator, Panel of Counsel, New York, has prepared summaries of Administrative Tribunal judgements to enable staff members to become acquainted with the decisions taken on subjects of common interest, e.g., on promotion, non-renewal of contracts, etc. The summaries are offered for information purposes only and are organized by the year the decisions were taken:
