ECOSOC High level Segment

UN invites Benin President Mathieu Kerekou

President Mathieu Kerekou of Benin has accepted the invitation of the United Nations to attend the ECOSOC High level Segment in New York from 28 to 30 June 2004 in his capacity as Chairman of the group of the fifty Least Developed Countries.

This year the theme of the ECOSOC High-level Segment is Resources Mobilization and enabling environment for poverty eradication in the context of the implementation of the programme of action for the Least Developed Countries for the decade 2001-2010.

ECOSOC President Ambassador Marjatta Rasi and Secretary-General Mr. Kofi Annan issued invitations to President Kerekou to participate at the High level segment. These invitations were handed over personally to President Kerekou by Under-Secretary-General and High Representative Anwarul K. Chowdhury during his visit to Benin earlier this year.
