Implementing

and the Pacific, Bangkok, 29 June 2004
The
Least Developed Countries Coordination Unit/Millennium Development
Goals Centre, in collaboration with the Poverty and Development
Division organized a workshop "Implementing partnerships for
development in least developed countries of Asia and the Pacific"
in Bangkok, on 29 June 2004, immediately prior to the Subcommittee
on Poverty Reduction Practices, 30 June to 2 July 2004.
The
workshop identified the necessary elements of effective partnerships
between governments, civil societies and the private sector, such
as policy environment, capacity-building, role of international
organizations and sources of funding. The outcomes of this meeting
formed an input to the first session of the Subcommittee on Poverty
Reduction Strategies, which considered (1) enabling environment
for poverty reduction initiatives, (2) strategies in poverty reduction,
(3) evaluation of targeted poverty reduction programmes and (4)
selected issues in poverty reduction, to ensure that its recommendations
can be implemented in the least developed countries.
