Summary of the Briefing to UN Member States by the CTC Chairman on 20 December 2001
Ambassador Greenstock briefed interested Member States on progress of the work of the CTC.
The CTC had received a briefing from Ambassador Antonio Armellini (G-8 Italian Terrorism Coordinator). He said that the G-8 are committed to supporting the UN role in the fight against international terrorism and agree on the importance of providing technical and legal assistance.
Ambassador Greenstock outlined the work programme for the second 90-day period. He confirmed that the programme would be considered by the CTC, and its new members in early January, and would be circulated to all Member States.
The CTC had now appointed six experts with expertise in the field of financing, national legislation, police work and enforcement. The UN Secretariat would continue to identify further experts and bring them to the attention of the CTC.
