The Secretary-General is pleased to announce the following job openings at the level of Assistant Secretary-General:

Deputy High Commissioner, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)

The High Commissioner wishes to advise that the Deputy High Commissioner, Ms. Flavia Pansieri, has announced her intention to step down before the end of 2015, after nearly three years of distinguished service in this position.  The High Commissioner accordingly wishes to register his sincere appreciation for the enormous contributions of the Deputy High Commissioner to strengthening the Office in its pursuit of protecting all human rights for all people.

Given the importance of the position to the ongoing work of the Office, the High Commissioner would like to solicit expressions of interest from qualified candidates at this time, especially welcoming female candidatures.  The responsibilities and requirements for this position, which holds the rank of Assistant Secretary-General, are attached herewith.  In the interest of a smooth transition, a deadline of 25 September 2015 has been established for receipt of applications, after which consideration of suitable candidates will commence immediately.

Individuals who are either nominated by Member States or who seek to serve with the United Nations in any individual capacity will be required, if short-listed, to complete a self-attestation stating that they have not committed, been convicted of, nor prosecuted for, any criminal offence and have not been involved, by act or omission, in the commission of any violation of international human rights law or international humanitarian law.

Assistant Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (ISDR)

The Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) and Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Disaster Risk Reduction is appointed by the Secretary General. The ASG/SRSG is accountable to the Secretary-General and reports to the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and UN Emergency Relief Coordinator (USG/ERC). The ASG/SRSG is the principal advisor to the Secretary-General and the USG/ERC on issues related to disaster risk reduction, the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 as a successor to the Hyogo Framework for Action (2005-2015) and will provide regular reports to them.
