Secretary-General's video message to Inaugural Meetings of Assembly and Council of the Global Green Growth Institute

Ban Ki-Moon, Former Secretary-General

Today’s launch of the Global Green Growth Institute as an international organization is a great advance.

I congratulate the Government and people of the Republic of Korea as well as all founding members of the GGGI.

I especially applaud the efforts of His Excellency President Lee Myung-bak … Dr. Han Seung-soo, the Founding Chair of the Board… and the current chair, Mr. Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

At this time of transition and upheaval, the world needs sustainable solutions.

Green growth can help people meet their aspirations while protecting the planet – our only home.

This Institute will serve as a think tank and laboratory for developing countries pursuing green growth.

I have high hopes for your success. The GGGI is already working in more than 10 developing countries and emerging economies, and that number will surely grow.

The United Nations is committed to strengthening cooperation with you. The Sustainable Energy for All initiative is one area for focused collaboration.

I am confident that we can advance our shared struggle to foster sustainable growth… create more just and equitable societies … and protect our planet for generations to come.

Thank you very much.
