The Secretary-General has taken note of the preliminary findings by the international observer missions that the second round of the Ivorian presidential election on 28 November was conducted in an overall satisfactory and credible manner. The Secretary-General also recalls that his Special Representative has found the elections to have been conducted in a democratic climate, despite some regrettable incidents, some of which were violent, in different parts of the country.

 

 

 

The Secretary-General urges the Independent Electoral Commission to announce the provisional results of the second round of the presidential election without delay, today, 1 December 2010. He calls upon all stakeholders to allow the Independent Electoral Commission to complete its work without interference in order to ensure the integrity of the results of the election. The Secretary-General emphasizes that any disruption in the electoral process would not be in the interest of the people of Côte d'Ivoire or the future stability of the country.

 

 

 

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General will continue, in the context of his certification mandate, all his efforts to safeguard the electoral process so that the will of the Ivorian people as expressed in the election will be respected. The United Nations will continue to provide its full support to the completion of the electoral operations and to the Ivorian peace process as a whole.

Déclaration attribuable au Porte parole du Secrétaire général à l'occasion de l'élection présidentielle en Côte d'Ivoire

 

 

 

 

 

Le Secrétaire général prend note des évaluations préliminaires des missions d'observation électorales qualifiant le déroulement du second tour de l'élection présidentielle de la Côte d'Ivoire de satisfaisant et globalement crédible. Le Secrétaire général rappelle également que son Représentant spécial a déclaré qu'en dépit de regrettables incidents parfois violents dans différentes parties du pays, le second tour s'est tenu dans un climat démocratique.

 

 

 

Le Secrétaire général exhorte la Commission électorale indépendante à annoncer les résultats provisoires du second tour de l'élection présidentielle sans délai, aujourd'hui 1er décembre 2010. Il appelle toutes les parties à permettre à la Commission électorale indépendante d'achever ses travaux sans entraves, afin d'assurer l'intégrité des résultats de l'élection. Le Secrétaire général souligne que toute perturbation du processus électoral ne serait pas dans l'intérêt du peuple de la Côte d'Ivoire ou de la stabilité future du pays.

 

 

 

Le Représentant spécial du Secrétaire général poursuivra ses efforts pour préserver le processus électoral, en conformité avec son mandat de certification, afin que la volonté du peuple ivoirien, telle qu'exprimée lors de l'élection, soit respectée. Les Nations Unies continueront à fournir leur plein soutien à la conclusion des opérations électorales et au processus de paix ivoirien dans son ensemble.
