New York, 22 September 2009 - Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the transfer of Gregoire Ndahimana to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda [scroll down for French version]
The Secretary-General welcomes the transfer, on 20 September 2009, of Grégoire Ndahimana, by the Congolese Government to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).
Grégoire Ndahimana, a Rwandan national and high-level figure in the Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda (FDLR), was arrested in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo by the Congolese Army on 10 August 2009.
Grégoire Ndahimana was among 13 of the remaining fugitives indicted before the ICTR for serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in Rwanda in 1994. Ndahimana's arrest and transfer to the ICTR was facilitated by MONUC, at the request of Congolese authorities.

Le Secrétaire général accueille favorablement le transfert de Grégoire Ndahimana par le Gouvernement congolais vers le Tribunal Pénal International pour le Rwanda, qui a eu lieu le 20 septembre 2009.
Grégoire Ndahimana, citoyen rwandais et figure emblématique des Forces Démocratiques de Libération du Rwanda (FDLR), a été arrêté à l'Est de la République démocratique du Congo par l'armée congolaise le 10 août dernier.
Grégoire Ndahimana figurait parmi les 13 fugitifs inculpés par le TPIR pour avoir commis des violations graves du droit international humanitaire au Rwanda en 1994. L'arrestation de Grégoire Ndahimana et son transfert vers le TPIR ont été facilités par la MONUC, à la demande des autorités congolaises.
