New York, 8 June 2009 - Statement Attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the death of the President of the Republic of Gabon (scroll down for the French version)
The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of His Excellency Mr. Omar Bongo Ondimba, President of the Republic of Gabon. He extends his sincere condolences to the President's family, as well as to the Government and people of Gabon.
The Secretary-General pays tribute to the late President Bongo Ondimba for the key role he played in the search for peace and stability not only in the Central Africa subregion, but also in other parts of the continent.

Déclaration de la Porte-parole du Secrétaire general
suite au décès du Président de la République gabonaise
Le Secrétaire général est profondément attristé par la nouvelle du décès de son Excellence M. Omar Bongo Ondimba, Président de la République gabonaise. Il présente ses sincères condoléances à la famille du Président, ainsi qu'au Gouvernement et au peuple gabonais.
Le Secrétaire général rend hommage au défunt Président Bongo Ondimba pour le rôle clé qu'il a joué dans la recherche de la paix et de la stabilité non seulement dans la sous-région de l'Afrique centrale, mais également dans d'autres parties du continent.
