New York, 21 September 2011 - Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the signing of a roadmap to end the crisis in Madagascar [scroll down for French version]

The Secretary-General welcomes the signing by Madagascar's political parties on 17 September 2011 of a roadmap to end the crisis in the country. He calls for its full implementation in order to pave the way for peaceful and credible elections.

Consistent with the dispositions of the Roadmap, he urges the Malagasy parties to promptly agree on the composition of the transitional government. He invites Madagascar's partners to provide the necessary assistance.

The Secretary-General commends the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for its mediation efforts. He reiterates the United Nations' commitment to assist the Malagasy people in the consolidation of peace in the country.

Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur la signature de la feuille de route pour la sortie de crise à Madagascar

Le Secrétaire général se réjouit de la signature le 17 septembre 2011 par les parties politiques malgaches de la feuille de route pour la sortie de crise dans le pays. Il appelle à sa pleine mise en ?uvre de manière à ouvrir la voie pour des élections paisibles et crédibles.

En accord avec les dispositions de la feuille de route, il appelle les parties malgaches à s'accorder dans les meilleurs délais sur la composition du gouvernement de transition. Il invite les partenaires de Madagascar à leur apporter le soutien nécessaire.

Le Secrétaire général félicite la Communauté de développement de l'Afrique Australe (SADC) pour ses efforts de médiation. Il réaffirme l'engagement des Nations Unies à soutenir la population malgache dans la consolidation de la paix.
