New York, 2 August 2011 - Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the death of four UNISFA peacekeepers
The Secretary-General is saddened by the death of four peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) who were killed by a landmine detonation during a patrol in Mabok, southeast of Abyei Town, on 2 August 2011.
The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those killed, as well to the Government of Ethiopia. He also expresses his concern for the wellbeing of the seven other peacekeepers who were injured in the explosion.
