The Secretary-General met today with H. E. Hon. Laura Boldrini, President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

They exchanged views on climate change, as well as questions related to large movements of refugees and migrants. On climate change, the Secretary-General called for the swift ratification of the Paris Agreement.

The Secretary-General commended Italy for its compassion and commitment to help those in need of protection, especially through its search and rescue efforts in the Mediterranean.

The Secretary-General and Ms. Boldrini also discussed the threat posed by terrorism and violent extremism.  They agreed on the importance of addressing the root causes of this phenomenon, as highlighted by the Secretary-General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.
