The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Faiez Mustafa Serraj, President of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord of Libya.

The Secretary-General commended Mr. Serraj and the Presidency Council for their efforts to implement the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA). He encouraged him to continue working with all stakeholders to broaden the support base of the LPA. He stressed the importance of building on the support of the international community to rapidly set up governmental institutions.

The Secretary-General highlighted the plight of those affected by the conflict in Libya and expressed concern about the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country.

The Secretary-General reiterated the UN's full support to the transition in Libya, and discussed in this regard the gradual return of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to Tripoli to assist those efforts.

The Secretary-General urged Libya to fast track the ratification of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change through appropriate legal means.
