The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Hery Rajaonarimampianina, President of Madagascar.

The Secretary-General and the President discussed the recent elections in the country and the need for political stability, fight against corruption and respect for human rights.

The two leaders noted that Madagascar was vulnerable to climate change, experiencing regular climate-related disasters. The two leaders agreed on the necessity to strengthen the country’s resiliency.

The Secretary-General and President Rajaonarimampianina also discussed several key upcoming events, including the official signature of the Paris agreement in New York and high-level meetings on the issues of sustainable development and migration.
