Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda

Today, the Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda.

The Secretary-General lauded the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encouraged President Kagame to champion this agenda, as he had done with the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals. Looking forward to the forthcoming Climate Change Conference, the Secretary-General asked President Kagame to help mobilise African Member States to declare their national emission reduction targets. 

The Secretary-General and President Kagame also discussed United Nations assistance to ongoing regional efforts to address peace and security challenges in the Great Lakes region.  In this regard, the Secretary-General reiterated the full support of the United Nations to find a peaceful solution to the problems currently confronting the region.
