The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Boni Yayi, President of Bénin, in the margins of the Third International Financing for Development Conference.

The Secretary-General underscored the importance of the Addis Ababa Conference to generate political momentum towards the summits on climate change and on sustainable development to be held later this year.

The Secretary-General and President Boni Yayi agreed on the importance of stable democratic institutions. They also discussed the current security situation in West Africa and the best ways to combat violent extremism, both at the security level and in addressing its root causes.
