The Secretary-General met with Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Freundel Stuart, and, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, H.E. Ms. Maxine McClean, of Barbados, in the margins of the 36th Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community in Barbados. He congratulated Barbados for its upcoming leadership of CARICOM.

The Secretary-General also thanked the Government of Barbados for its leadership in efforts to address challenges faced by Small Island Developing States, including the Caribbean region’s specific development needs. They also talked about the Financing for Development and Post-2015 Development agendas.

They discussed climate change and the Secretary-General commended Barbados’ actions on renewable energy, as well as stressed the important role of CARICOM in finalizing a meaningful, universal climate agreement in Paris.
