I am delighted to be home. It’s been about two years since my last visit to Korea in August 2013.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the United Nations and Korea’s 70th anniversary of independence, which makes my visit this time around even more meaningful. The main purpose of my visit is to attend the World Education Forum that UNESCO and the Korean government are jointly hosting.

Education tops the global agenda for peace and stability and development in the world. At the WEF, world’s education leaders, the Korean government and the UN will discuss how education will lead to world peace and development.

I will also attend other UN events, including the UN Global Compact and Academic Impact, as well as events aimed at facilitating discussion on regional peace and development of ICT. In addition, I will attend the event celebrating UN’s 70th anniversary. But most importantly, I will pay a courtesy call to President Park Geun-hye and talk about how to achieve peace on the Korean peninsula and how the Republic of Korea can contribute to world peace, stability and development.

I will also meet with Speaker of the National Assembly Chung Ui-hwa and other leaders from the National Assembly. I am scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and discuss the Korea-UN cooperation.

During my 5-day visit, I plan to have a meaningful discussion on the UN-Korea relations and how Korea may further contribute to the international community.
