Note to Correspondents on the launch of the UN Inquiry into the violent demonstration of 27 January 2015 in Gao, Mali

The United Nations appointed a high-level team to conduct an Inquiry into the events of 27 January in Gao, Mali, where a violent demonstration against a MINUSMA camp resulted in the death and injury of protestors.

The United Nations informed the Government of Mali of the Inquiry and received assurances of its full support.

The Inquiry, which was announced by the Secretary-General on 29 January, will be conducted by three independent experts with extensive international experience.

The Inquiry team will travel soon to Mali in order to establish, swiftly and comprehensively, the facts surrounding the demonstration.

The experts conducting the Inquiry are Mr. Bacre Waly Ndiaye of Senegal (team leader), Mr. Ralph Zacklin of the United Kingdom and Mr. Mark Kroeker of the United States.

Les Nations Unies ont nommé une équipe de haut-niveau pour mener une enquête sur les événements du 27 janvier à Gao, au Mali, où une manifestation violente contre un camp de la MINUSMA a entraîné des morts et des blessés parmi les manifestants.

Les Nations Unies ont informé le Gouvernement du Mali de cette enquête et ont reçu les assurances de son plein soutien.

L’enquête, annoncée par le Secrétaire général le 29 janvier, sera menée par une équipe de trois experts indépendants ayant une vaste expérience internationale.

L’équipe d’enquêteurs se rendra au Mali prochainement afin d'établir rapidement tous les faits autour de cette manifestation.

Les experts chargés de mener l’enquête sont M. Bacre Waly Ndiaye du Sénégal (chef d’équipe), M. Ralph Zacklin du Royaume-Uni et M. Mark Kroeker des États-Unis.
