Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Fredrik Reinfeldt, Prime Minister of Sweden

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Fredrik Reinfeldt, Prime Minister of Sweden. During the meeting, the Secretary-General thanked Mr. Reinfeldt for his strong commitment to the United Nations throughout his tenure as Prime Minister. The Secretary-General expressed his strong appreciation for Sweden’s continued dedication to advancing the global development agenda and for its valuable contribution to UN peacekeeping operations and the promotion of human rights.

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister also discussed the challenges of climate change and agreed on the importance of building on the momentum gained with the Climate Summit.

They also exchanged views on the situation in Iraq and Syria. The Secretary-General thanked Prime Minister Reinfeldt for his Government’s continued commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts in Syria, including by providing assistance to Syrian refugees in Sweden. The Prime Minister pledged Sweden’s continued humanitarian assistance.
