The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland. The Secretary-General commended Finland’s assistance with the disposal of Syrian chemical weapons through its support to the OPCW-UN Joint Mission. The Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation for Finland’s commitment to the United Nations’ mediation efforts. He thanked President Niinistö for his personal engagement in finding a solution to the crisis in Ukraine. With regard to the Ebola crisis, the Secretary-General appealed to President Niinistö to increase Finland's support for international efforts to urgently tackle this scourge.
