Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany. They stressed the importance of the cease-fire in south-eastern Ukraine being maintained as well as for further progress to be made on the peace plan. They also exchanged views on the situation in Syria, and the critical importance of achieving a political solution to the crisis, with the support of the UN Special Envoy. 

On to the Ebola crisis, the Secretary-General outlined the UN response and appealed to Foreign Minister Steinmeier to increase Germany's support for international efforts to urgently tackle this scourge. They also discussed the Climate Summit, which the Secretary-General will convene on 23 September. The Secretary-General expressed his deep appreciation for Germany’s support to address climate change, including in the form of its recent pledge of USD 1 billion to the UN Green Climate Fund.
