Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi.

They discussed issues related to the peaceful transfer of power in Malawi, peace and security in Africa, and the post-2015 development agenda. The Secretary-General congratulated the President on his recent election as President of the Republic of Malawi and commended him for the country’s current political stability. The Secretary-General thanked Malawi for its contribution to United Nations peace operations, especially female police officers, and encouraged its continued support. The Secretary-General also encouraged President Mutharika to continue to display his leadership on issues pertaining to Africa. He commended Malawi for the progress made in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals.
