The Secretary-General met today with His Excellency Mr. Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

They discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, including the Iranian nuclear issue, conflicts in the region, particularly Iraq and Syria, and the human rights situation in Iran.

The Secretary-General expressed hope that a comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme would be reached.

He reiterated his belief that Iran would play a constructive role in Iraq and Syria.
