The Secretary-General had a phone conversation today with H.E. Mr. Frank Bainimarana, Prime Minister of Fiji, in the margins of the Small Island Developing States Conference taking place in Apia, Samoa.

The Secretary-General ensured that the United Nations was doing its utmost to obtain the unconditional and immediate release of the Fijian peacekeepers detained in Golan Heights.

The Secretary-General also hoped that the process leading to elections in Fiji on 17 September will be peaceful, transparent and participatory.
