Note to correspondents in follow up to questions at today’s Noon Briefing

New York, 15 April 2014

The Legal Counsel, Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, and the Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, Mr. Stephen Mathias, received today the Chargé d'Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Ambassador Gholamhossein Dehghani, at his request.

The Chargé d'Affaires raised with the Legal Counsel the situation regarding the United States’ decision not to issue a visa for the person that the Islamic Republic of Iran had chosen to be its Permanent Representative at the United Nations.

The Legal Counsel noted that he was still studying the issue and would very carefully consider precedents and past practice. He noted that the Host Country Committee is expected to be meeting next Tuesday, 22 April.
