Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with the Chairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab Group and the Non-Aligned Movement as well as the Permanent Representatives of Jordan, Egypt and the Permanent Observer of the State of Pales

Ban Ki-Moon, Former Secretary-General

The Secretary-General met today with the Chairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab Group and the Non-Aligned Movement as well as the Permanent Representatives of Jordan and Egypt and the Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine on the issue of the recent disturbances at the Haram Al-Sharif/Temple Mount compound.
The delegation discussed at length the importance of the holy sites for Jews, Christians and Muslims alike and the potential impact of recent developments on Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory and for the region as a whole.
Noting that events in Jerusalem can undermine trust throughout the region, the Secretary-General called upon all to avoid provocative acts.
