Secretary-General's remarks to the press on arrival in Cuba
Havana, 27 January 2014
Señoras y señores, buenas noches. Estoy muy feliz de estar en Cuba con ustedes por primera vez.
I am especially pleased to be visiting Cuba as you mark the anniversary of the great Cuban and Latin American hero, José Marti.
Leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean countries are coming to Cuba for the second CELAC Summit meeting. Taking inspiration from José Marti, CELAC is “planting the seed for a new America”.
I look forward to hearing views on key issues from peace and security to sustainable development and human rights.
I also look forward to my meetings with Cuban officials, including His Excellency President Raul Castro and many ministers. We will discuss many issues covering development, peace and security and prosperity. Cuba is undergoing an important transformation process and I am eager to learn more about it and talk about how the United Nations can continue to accompany this process.
Muchas gracias por su calurosa bienvenida. Muchas gracias.
