Secretary-General's remarks on South Sudan ceasefire agreement, speaking at a World Food Programme Event on his Zero Hunger Challenge initiative

Ban Ki-Moon, Former Secretary-General

I was very much encouraged while entering this tent that there was good news. You know that in South Sudan they have been fighting among themselves between the two. And they have signed this peace agreement in Addis Ababa, facilitated by IGAD members, and of course the United Nations has also been actively engaged. I sincerely hope this peace deal will also provide good opportunities for South Sudanese, and the people around this country who have been suffering, through this United Nations initiative Zero Hunger Challenge or MDGs so that they can devote their time and energy and resources more on delivering to the people. That is my sincere and earnest hope.
