Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of France

The Secretary-General met today in Paris with H.E. Mr. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of France, on the margins of the Elysee Summit for Peace and Security in Africa.

During their meeting, they discussed the situation in the Central African Republic, following the adoption by the Security Council of resolution 2127 authorizing the deployment of African and French forces to the country.

They also discussed the situations in Mali, in Lebanon and in Libya.

The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed latest developments on Syria, including preparations for the Geneva II Conference, scheduled for 22 January 2014.  They also exchanged views on the latest developments in the talks with Iran on the nuclear issue.

Finally, the Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister exchanged views on climate change, in particular the outcomes of the Warsaw climate change conference, the Secretary-General's 2014 climate summit and France’s hosting of the 2015 Climate conference.
