Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H.E. Mr. Salva Kiir, President of the Republic of South Sudan

The Secretary-General met today in Paris with H.E. Mr. Salva Kiir, President of the Republic of South Sudan, on the margins of the Elysée Summit for Peace and Security in Africa.

During the meeting, they discussed the situation in South Sudan, including the preparations for the elections in 2015. The Secretary-General stressed his concern about reports of security incidents, which have placed UN staff at risk.

They also discussed the situation in Abyei.

The Secretary-General encouraged South Sudan to maintain the current momentum in relations with Sudan, in particular to conclude the negociation process on Abyei and border issues.
