Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with the Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

The Secretary-General met with Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) today.

The Secretary-General commended Dr. Pachauri and all those who contributed to the recently released IPCC Working Group I Report for their excellent work. He urged their continued efforts for the releases of the upcoming IPCC reports in 2014.

The Secretary-General and Dr. Pachauri discussed the Secretary-General’s Climate Summit and the imperative of transitioning to a low-carbon and resilient economy in the face of increasing severity of climate change impacts.  They also discussed the importance of the Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All initiative, including the objective of providing universal access to energy.
