The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The Secretary-General appreciated Bangladesh’s achievements and its leadership on the Millennium Development Goals.  He also expressed deep gratitude for the country’s significant contribution to United Nations peacekeeping and he praised the Prime Minister’s leadership in promoting the empowerment of women.

They discussed the current situation in Bangladesh in the lead-up to the parliamentary elections.
