The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

They discussed developments in Egypt and regional issues of common interest. They discussed the need for interim authorities to ensure protection of the fundamental human rights of all Egyptians.

The Secretary-General thanked Egypt for its hospitality to Syrian refugees.

They exchanged views on the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the region of the Middle East and all other weapons of mass destruction and the need to finalize the modalities for the Helsinki Conference.
