The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria. 

The Secretary-General warmly congratulated Mr. Lamamra on his recent appointment. The Secretary-General encouraged Algeria to continue to work towards regional integration.  On the issue of Western Sahara, he thanked Algeria for its continued support to the UN-led negotiating process, the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) and the Confidence Building Measures programme led by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). They also discussed the situation in Mali and the Sahel.

They discussed the Millennium Development Goals and the post-2015 development agenda. The Secretary-General also raised human rights issues.
