Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. 

The Secretary-General thanked the UK for its leadership role and significant financial contributions on development issues. He briefed the Deputy Prime Minister on discussions with Member States on the development of a post-2015 development agenda, including the formulation of Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing that this constitutes a top priority for the United Nations.

They exchanged views on humanitarian issues and the need to provide additional resources both inside Syria and in the neighbouring countries hosing Syrian refugees.

The Secretary-General and Deputy Prime Minister discussed Somalia and Yemen and increased efforts to promote security in both countries.

The Secretary-General said he counted on the UK’s continued support to help build a positive momentum in the Cyprus negotiations. 

He expressed gratitude to the UK for its support to his efforts to implement UN reforms.
