Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Barack Obama, President of the United States of America

The Secretary-General met today with President Barack Obama of the United States of America. They discussed the situation in Syria, and agreed on the importance of continued UN engagement on the issue of Syrian chemical weapons, as well as the importance of a political solution and the need to avoid further loss of life.

The Secretary-General and President Obama discussed relations between the United States and Iran, and the importance of progress on the nuclear file. In addition, they discussed ongoing efforts in support of Somalia, Mali, Congo, Human Rights and UN reform.
