The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). They discussed long-term international support to Afghanistan, including the status of preparations for the post-2014 NATO training mission.
They also exchanged views on United Nations-NATO cooperation in the context of Kosovo and international efforts to fight piracy off the coast of Somalia.
On Syria, he provided a briefing on United Nations efforts regarding chemical weapons, a political solution and the humanitarian situation, including the Syrian refugees in the neighbouring countries.
Further, the Secretary-General and Mr. Fogh Rasmussen discussed other practical areas of cooperation and exchange between the Secretariats of the two Organizations.
