Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia

The Secretary-General today met with H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

They discussed a range of issues of mutual interest to the African Union and the United Nations, including the political situations in Somalia; Sudan and South Sudan; the Democratic Republic of the Congo; and Mali and the Sahel.

The Secretary-General congratulated the African Union and Africa’s leaders on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the organization. He reaffirmed the support of the United Nations to strengthen its cooperation with the AU to ensure lasting peace and sustainable development on the continent

The Secretary-General also informed Prime Minister Dessalegn of his appointment of his new Special Representatives to the African Union, Haile Menkerios, and to Somalia, Nicholas Kay.
